How Can Veterans Apply for Help From USA Cares?

Financial Assistance

Post-Service Skill Training

Suicide Prevention

Find Hope. Find Stability.

For post-9/11 veterans, the transition to civilian life comes with unique challenges. Many face financial hardship, unemployment, housing insecurity, and mental health struggles—factors that can lead to crisis, isolation, and even suicide. Too often, these battles go unseen and unsupported.

At USA Cares, we’re committed to changing that by providing urgent financial relief, career support and access to resources that restore hope and stability.

The Breaking Point

The Escalating Risk Factors for Veteran Suicide

Application Submission

A veteran or family member fills out an online application for assistance.

Case Review & Assignment

USA Cares’ Case Management Team reviews the application and assigns it for further evaluation.

Case Manager Review

The Case Manager verifies details with the applicant. If the case meets grant requirements, they send a follow-up email outlining the next steps.

Documentation & Verification

The applicant completes a financial literacy course. They also must submit required documents, including proof of military service, past-due bills & proof of income loss related to military service.

Case Summary & Submission

The Case Manager compiles a case summary and gathers all documentation for the Programs Manager to review and submit to the virtual committee.

Committee & Leadership Review

A virtual committee evaluates the case and makes a recommendation. Final approval comes from USA Cares’ leadership team.

Approval & payment Issuance

If approved, payments are sent directly to landlords, mortgage companies, utility providers, etc. Food or gas cards are mailed to the client if needed.
